Tiger Woods Has The Longest Odds to Win, But Everyone is Betting on Him Anyway

Tiger Woods has not won a professional golf tournament since the 2019 Masters Tournament, where he overcame a star-studded pack of young guns who were attempting to spoil the Big Cat’s 15th Major Championship.

This weekend, sportsbooks everywhere are well aware of that, and he currently has the longest odds to win at the Hero World Challenge, according to MGM.

That does not mean people are not betting on him. He is currently holding a majority of bets on MGM‘s platform:

Woods is sitting at +6600, a far cry from favorite Viktor Hovland, who will look to three-peat at the Tiger-run event in the Bahamas. Hovland, the reigning FedEx Cup Champion, sits at +400.

For those who are not familiar with sports betting, odds can be calculated simply. If you bet $100 on Tiger this weekend to win outright, you would win $6,600. If you bet $100 on Hovland, you’d win $400.

Woods will compete for the first time since April, when he withdrew from the Masters. Since then, he admittedly has not played much golf. During his Tuesday press conference, Woods said he has been rehabbing from his surgery earlier this year that helped alleviate some pain in his foot.

Woods is not the only one who will come into the tournament with little-to-no playing experience for the calendar year. 

Will Zalatoris has not played a competitive round of golf since the 2022 BMW Championship in Wilmington, Delaware. I was lucky enough to be there, and I got pretty close to Willy Z when he hit his tee shot into the rough on Friday. He would WD on Saturday due to a back injury.
