Tiger Woods is Not Answering Questions About Ryder Cup Captaincy…Yet
With the news that Luke Donald has officially accepted an invitation to be captain of the European Ryder Cup team once again – making him the first back-to-back captain in over 30 years – you might wonder what the plans are for the United States team.
A reporter wondered the same and asked Tiger Woods about it at the Hero World Challenge. Woods has been loosely linked to the position for the 2025 event at Bethpage Black; Davis Love III said that the job was Tiger’s if he wanted it.
But Woods indicated that his mind is preoccupied with things coming up more quickly on the calendar. Namely, the talks between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund to try and finalize their framework agreement by the self-imposed deadline of Dec. 31.
Would Tiger Woods consider captaining the next U.S. Ryder Cup team?

“There’s too much at stake with our tour to think about a Ryder Cup right now,” said Woods, who is a member of the PGA Tour Policy Board. “We have to get this [deal] done, and we have to be focused on this right now.”
Woods also downplayed the on-course and parking-lot incidents featuring Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, and caddies Joe LaCava and Jim “Bones” Mackay. LaCava was Tiger’s bag man for several years before he joined up with Cantlay following Woods’ ankle surgery this past spring.
“Well, what happened there, it was media; it was just noise,” Woods said. “Then obviously the fact that everyone now carries a mobile device and that was able to spread.”
