Patrick Reed’s Defamation Case Didn’t Go As He Planned
A quick legal update for you all as 2024 rears its head.
A Jacksonville federal judge has ruled today that Patrick Reed will have to pay Brandel Chamblee and other news outlets after he sued for defamation.
2018 Masters Champ Reed made headlines after signing for LIV – one of the first bigger names to move to the tour. He has been targeted by several prominent commentators, like Chamblee, after rules infractions like the famous bunker incident and allegations of improving his lie on several occasions.

The defendants included Eamon Lynch, the Associated Press and Fox Sports. Eddie Pepperell has already taken to X to express his glee at the outcome, which has Reed paying attorney costs and fees to all named defendants, after his $750 million lawsuit has been dismissed twice.
Reed claims that various commentators had committed “conspiracy, defamation, injurious falsehood and tortious interference and that the defenders had acted ‘in concert as joint tortfeasors.'”
Reed’s lawyer, Larry Klayman – argued that the PGA Tour had set out to ‘destroy’ his client and his family, as well as the LIV Tour overall.
The judges ruling boiled down to Reed’s opponents exercising their right to free speech.
