Matthew Wolff the Latest Victim of Nike Golf Limbo

Nike leaving the golf game is becoming more apparent as Matthew Wolff has been seen with no apparel on and sporting FootJoy shoes.

Obviously Wolff is a part of LIV Golf and has had his ups and downs since finishing second at Winged Foot in 2020, his best major finish to date.

He fell off the radar, citing mental health issues that led to a drop in performance on the course before joining Smash GC under Brooks Koepka’s captaincy.

Nike parting ways with Wolff isn’t a surprise,  given the lack of views in LIV events coupled with his declining standards of play.

Wolff is an interesting case study at such a young age. A violent, unique swing that led to a lot of “swing your swing” videos and praise for instructor George Gankis, as Wolff won the NCAA D1 title and the 3M Open in the same year.

Wolff should’ve been a sponsors dream, captivating us with his crazy knee trigger that he borrowed from baseball as a kid – and reverse loop technique. A top 4 finish in the PGA followed by runner-up in the US Open at the age of 21, he was off to a fine start.

Nike are cleaning up; expect to see a lot more FootJoy golf shoes on Tour. Just like Jason Day sporting Malbon apparel at this weeks Tournament of Champions, it’ll be fun to spot the new clothing brands coming to the fore.
