TRUCE: Rory McIlroy Has Fully Flipped His Script on LIV Golf
Rory McIlroy has fully flipped his personal script on LIV Golf, and you truly might not believe what he said.
McIlroy has been, by far, the most vocal critic of LIV on the PGA Tour. At one point, he said it as point blank as you can:
“I hate LIV.”

However, McIlroy has softened his stance slowly but surely over the past few months, and it all started when Jon Rahm defected, which was a huge blow to Rory’s European Ryder Cup lineup.
McIlroy said on Tuesday regarding those who have left the PGA Tour and joined LIV:
“If people still have eligibility on this tour and they want to come back and play – or you want to try and do something – let them come back. I mean…I think it’s hard to punish people. I don’t think there should be a punishment.”
He continued:
“The faster that we can all get back together and start to play and start to have the strongest fields possible, I think is great for golf.”
McIlroy’s stance has flipped 180 degrees since LIV’s initial entrance into the professional tour realm. It seems like, as soon as the defections started to hurt him personally, starting with Rahm and the Ryder Cup, Rory changed tunes.
OPINION: Jon Rahm Was the Straw That Broke Rory McIlroy’s Back
Nevertheless, it is for the better that Rory is willing to get the game unified and together once again. Perhaps with the PGA Tour's biggest name on board with a merger and strong playing fields, things will start to move forward at a more spirited pace and we can all enjoy strong fields more frequently than just the four Major Championships.
