Charlie Woods Shoots 81 in US Open Qualifier
A Woods father-son golf Major will have to wait a little longer.
Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods, 15, attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open in a local qualifier in Florida.
Woods shot an 81 after carding a 40 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine. The competition was fierce, as only the top-five golfers in the 84-person field would advance to a final qualifying round.

Matt Kuchar’s son, Cameron, also attempted to qualify and shot an 82 at Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
It was the first time that Woods attempted to qualify for a major. He also played in a local qualifier for the PGA’s Cognizant Classic, which took place in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, earlier this year.

The U.S. Open, being held at North Carolina’s Pinehurst No. 2 this year, is always a special tournament for dads since Sunday’s final round traditionally takes place on Father’s Day.
In the history of the tournament, there have been six father-son duos to compete in the same U.S. Open. Included in that number is Jack and Gary Nicklaus and the most successful father-son duo at this major: Jay and Bill Hass. Jay, who was 55 in the 2003 edition, finished ninth while his son, Bill, wound up 40th.
