Notables to Miss the Cut at the PGA Championship

Amidst the turmoil at Valhalla, we must first recognize the passing of John Mills on his way to a golf tournament. The 2024 PGA Championship will always be marred by such a catastrophic event, but there are still 36 holes to play for some of the world’s best golfers.

Many of the world’s top guys are also heading home, not able to take advantage of a softer Valhalla course. Among them are Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Wyndham Clark. Rahm is very much out of sorts. His back nine on Thursday showed some sign of his former self, but his general demeanor and performance were poor.

Rahm was 4 over par after his first six holes on Thursday. There was a rumor that Rahm was shunned by multiple PGA Tour players on Thursday, approaching them on the practice green as he was kitted out in full Legion XIII attire, looking to strike up a conversation with his former Tour colleagues.

Rahm has been going off script recently, offering strange rhetoric that shows all the signs of buyer’s remorse. He mentioned not technically being kicked off the PGA Tour, referring to his “suspension” status as if it wasn’t permanent.

The music and the shotgun starts don’t seem to be for him, and he’s under the microscope this week after such a good year in 2023 before making the jump to LIV. Always a big name at any major, Rahm posting a missed cut at Valhalla shows he’s not firing on all cylinders. Something is clearly off.

Tiger Woods and Michael Block were way down the leaderboard at +7. The long, drawn-out footage of Tiger is becoming hard to watch, and posting two treble bogeys on Friday was not part of the plan.

He put it down to not playing many competitive rounds, but he is in a vicious circle of not being able to play very often due to his limited physical capacity. As we roll into the weekend, all eyes are on Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, and Sahith Theegala at the top of the leaderboard.
