While the U.S. has some work to do before the Ryder Cup in 2025, the American team will be in the position of defending its title at the Presidents Cup this fall.

To that end, U.S. captain Jim Furyk rounded out his staff for the event that will pit the American team against one from Canada and other parts of the world besides Europe.

The three captain’s assistants are Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, and Kevin Kisner.

In his Presidents Cup playing days, Cink led the U.S. team to a perfect 4-0 record.

Cink said:

“Jim is a longtime friend, and it’s an honor to be named as a captain’s assistant for the 2024 Presidents Cup. This event has meant so much to my career and it’s a thrill to get to return to Montreal, where I have such great memories from 2007.”

Royal Montreal, the host for this year’s tournament, saw Furyk and Cink paired together in fourball matches during that event in 2007.

All three will be in an assistant capacity for the first time. Kisner played on the U.S. team as part of its win at Quail Hollow in Charlotte two years ago.

Kisner said:

“Match play is my favorite format in golf, and I’m looking forward to adding some expertise and insight to our team room as we lead an incredible contingent of players into Montreal. Jim is someone I’ve looked up to throughout my career and is naturally just a great leader, so it was a thrill when he called and asked me to serve as a captain’s assistant this fall.”

The International Team is led by Canadian Mike Weir. His assistants are Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy, and Camilo Villegas.

Team USA defeated the International Team 17.5 to 12.5 two years ago. The International squad was hurt by not being able to select players who were not eligible, thanks to their allegiance to LIV Golf, including Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Abraham Ancer, and Marc Leishman.
