Pres Cup Captain to LIV Golfers: They’re Not Coming in our Team Room
Much has been said about the stature of team competitions like this week’s Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup being negatively impacted by LIV Golf pros being unable to compete.
After all, the International team this week is starting eight rookies and is a heavy underdog to the United States side without players like Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Marc Leishman, and Louis Oosthuizen available due to their indefinite suspension from the PGA Tour.

U.S. team captain Davis Love III said that some members of his team have stated that those players should be allowed in these international matches to preserve the integrity of the competitions, but on an edition of the Fire Drill podcast by the Fire Pit Collective, the World Golf Hall of Famer said it’s not worth the rift it might cause in the locker room.
Love III:
“We had guys in past years we didn’t want in our team room because they were not a team guy, were out for themselves… Now we know who they are. They’re suing us! They’re not coming in our team room. I would walk out before having three or four of those guys on my team if I were a player.”
Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau are among those suing the PGA Tour, and several golfers unsuccessfully tried to get a legal ruling to compete in last month’s FedEx Cup playoffs.
