With players like Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Bryson DeChambeau conspicuous by their absence at the Presidents Cup, LIV Golf pros ineligible to play was a hot topic among those taking part in the event—just as the subject has been a dominant part of pre-tournament press conferences since the spring.

World’s No. 1 ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler was asked about LIV’s attempts to get into the Official World Golf Rankings and gave a fair answer.

Scheffler said:

“I play golf on the PGA Tour. Honestly I don’t have much to say. I don’t know the ins and outs of how the system works, if those golf tournaments are deemed eligible–if 54-hole events count, 48 guys.”

Around 50 LIV golfers wrote to the committee deciding on whether LIV events will get ranking points earlier this week. Remaining in the rankings will help them qualify for majors and state their case to play in other large events.

While the war of words isn’t slowing down, the subject of taking the rivalry onto the course came up. Would a PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf team event like the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup be something that pros would be interested in?

Both Scheffler and Billy Horschel said, in no uncertain terms, no.

Scheffler noted:

“I think the PGA Tour has a bit more talent than their tour does. I don’t have much to say.”

Horschel said:

“I wouldn’t mind playing in it, but at the same time, you’ve got to look at things–what would the PGA Tour benefit from that? Nothing. If we win, we’re supposed to win. If we lose, it looks bad on the PGA Tour. So it’s really a lose-lose for the PGA Tour in that situation, and LIV’s got everything to gain from it.”
