Jordan Spieth said recently he “could get in a lot of trouble for answering” questions about how the PGA TOUR’s negotiations with the Saudi PIF are going, specifically in terms of how LIV Golfers would return to their former tour.

One of the biggest questions looming over the last couple of years in professional golf is the PGA TOUR’s handling of the sudden absence of several golfers who left for LIV Golf will transpire.

Many of those players, including Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, want to eventually come back to the PGA TOUR.

But how the situation will be handled, especially questions regarding the transition for these players to be eligible for TOUR events and what will happen to their their massive signing bonuses still loom.

During a recent press conference, Jordan Spieth was asked about how the TOUR will handle the return of LIV Golfers:

“That’s an extremely loaded question that I could get in a lot of trouble answering. “I’ll just say things of that nature take a little bit of time, but they’re very active. That’s about as far as I can go for you.”

Still, those details are a far way from being determined. Spieth had mentioned that the important thing is a deal between the PGA TOUR and PIF is done correctly, and not rushed just so golf reaches a point of unification once again.

“Obviously if anything can be done right and done sooner, that’s great. But I would rather see it done correctly and done the right way for golf going forward for the longest amount of time, regardless how long that takes to get there.”

From a spectator perspective, this seems to prove that talks between the two parties are advancing, and simply put, Spieth cannot reveal any specific details because he isn’t in a position to reveal groundbreaking news about the negotiations.

Nevertheless, things are going in the right direction, and it sounds as if LIV players will be able to return, but what penalties they might experience for leaving in the first place still appear to be the main part of discussions.
