Father, Son, and Stepdad All Record Aces on Incredible Hole-in-One Streak

A trip to watch the Open Championship at Royal Troon became extra memorable for the Ham-Howes family, and the story is just getting started from that point.

After taking in the second round of this year’s final major, Carl Ham-Howes, 49, and son Lewis, 19, played on a nine-hole course while in the country.

Playing on the eighth hole for the second time in their round of 18, Paul took a 6-iron to tee off on the par-3, 151-yard hole. After a couple of bounces on the green, the ball settled into the cup for his first-ever hole-in-one.

The duo returned to their home on the island of Jersey, a U.K. territory located off the coast of France in the English Channel, with quite a story to tell.

But just three weeks later, Lewis’ stepfather, Paul Soares, 46, aced a par-3, 134-yard hole at a local competition in Jersey. After hearing about the feat, Lewis texted the pair, saying it was then his turn.

One week later, Lewis found himself playing in a tournament at St. Clements, which was the same course Soares logged his ace on.

You won’t be surprised to hear that Lewis did just that, but what makes the feat even more remarkable is that it came on a par-4, 275-yard hole. His 3-wood tee shot cleared a hazard, landed just short of the green, and rolled right into the hole.

England Golf, who reported the story, said that an ace on a par 4 carries about 6 million-to-1 odds for an amateur golfer. Not to mention having two family members also card hole-in-ones in the span of a month.

A spokesperson for England Golf said:

“For everyone still dreaming of [recording a hole-in-one], it instills that bit of inspiration and belief – and that’s why we love the game.”

This family has a legendary story that will be told for generations – and gives hope for the rest of us!
