Sergio Garcia Needs a New LIV Teammate – Here’s His Dream Partner
Sergio Garcia has an open spot on his Fireballs team for LIV Golf and, at the same time, could be looking to fill a spot on another team.
The Mirror is reporting that Garcia could be looking at PGA Tour veteran Adam Scott to replace Eugenio Chacarra, whose contract with LIV was up and finished outside the top 24 in points, which would’ve triggered an automatic renewal.
Garcia didn’t make any concrete comments on who he would be selecting for the opening on his team.
Garcia said:
“We want to see if we can get someone new, a little bit of a different profile kind of player. We are working on it, and hopefully we’ll have something before the year ends. It’s exciting to look at different options and looking at someone who could make the team better in every aspect.”
Where it gets tricky is that Scott is a member of the PGA Tour Policy Board.
While he didn’t sound like someone looking to make the jump, he was complimentary of LIV’s place in the pro golf landscape.
In September, Scott said:
“I think whether a deal is done with PIF or not, I see it in a good spot. Ultimately, the market will decide what it wants. The PGA Tour is still, for sure, the strongest platform and has the strongest players. Even with a competitive tour out there, I still think it will be okay for pro golf players. I think it’s just a time of change, and most people don’t like that.”
In the meantime, Garcia – who resigned from the DP World Tour last year in protest of the fines levied on him for playing on the LIV circuit – has applied for reinstatement to the DPWT.
It’s the first step in a potential return to the European Ryder Cup team for 2025, where Garcia is the all-time leading points earner after not being eligible for it last year.
