LIV Golf Looks to Strike Deal with PGA TOUR ally DP World Tour

LIV Golf is making a major effort to strike a deal with PGA TOUR ally, the DP World Tour, as the two entities are considering a partnership.

It could be the first true step in the direction of a merger between LIV and another golf league, potentially helping to catalyze an end to the division in men’s professional golf.

There are major implications from the talks, especially if they are successful. LIV Golf would have mainstay status in golf while the DP World Tour would be bolstered by a hefty financial commitment by its investors, the PIF of Saudi Arabia.

The talks are separate from the talks LIV is having with the PGA TOUR, Bloomberg said, who initially reported the story. There is no guarantee that LIV and the DPWT will come to terms that will see a partnership or conglomeration take place.

DP World Tour spokespeople said:

“We remain in discussions with the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Enterprises, SSG and PIF relating to the ongoing overall picture for men’s global golf, but no agreements have been reached.”

It could be a major factor in what occurs with the PGA TOUR and LIV, as the two have been attempting to strike a deal for over a year and a half.

The DP World Tour, at one time, was not interested in dealing with LIV Golf or any of the players that defected to the tour, which was paying some golfers hundreds of millions of dollars to make the jump.

It, in turn, fined and suspended players for jumping ship, a similar route that the PGA TOUR took.

However, declining TV ratings and a focus on more relatable content have encouraged the sides to take a look at their relationship and potentially mend a once sore subject.
