Before diving into the Mevo Gen 2, it’s worth quickly recapping the history of FlightScope’s consumer offerings.

The original Mevo was launched in 2017, and empowered users to capture key ball data like carry distance, launch angle and spin rate for less than $500. And the best part, it was super portable; the original Mevo easily fit in the side pocket of your carry golf bag and, therefore, could be something you bring to every range session to help dial in your clubs.

Shortly after, in 2020, the Mevo Plus came to market. The slightly larger packaging was still portable, but it came with a lot more horsepower. Users were treated to additional data parameters and, following some updates, provided access to the most sought after data points: club head information, including path and face information.

But the original Mevo is nearly 10 years old, so it’s due for an update (hence, the Gen 2).

In truth, the features and abilities of the Mevo Gen 2 make it feel more like a Mevo Plus Lite. Where the original Mevo only offered 8 data points, the Gen 2 offers 18, including a whole range of data points for full swing, chipping and putting. Those features are powered by FlightScope’s patented Fusion Tracking Technology, which combines 3D Doppler radar and synchronized image processing (via the front-facing camera) to provide unmatched accuracy both indoors and outdoors.

FlightScope Shot Tracer provides accurate 3D trajectories with
performance data overlays and a shot tracer with the swing video

But this Mevo Gen 2 isn’t just a bunch of hardware updates with some additional data points; indeed, the software updates are perhaps even more impressive. Without any paywalls to unlock features, the Mevo Gen 2 comes equipped with 8 simulation courses (listed below), Customized Challenges (which allow you to test accuracy with your driver, irons, and wedges,) and Swing Training mode, where you can work on distance and speed training. Once you’re done training, you can see how it’ll play on the course by launching the eight included E6 Connect courses:

  1. Kiawah Ocean Course: SC, USA
  2. Torrey Pines South Course: CA, USA
  3. Kapalua Golf Club Plantation Course: HI, USA
  4. Valderrama Golf Club: Cádiz, Spain
  5. Sea Island Seaside Course: GA, USA
  6. Pelican Hill Golf Club: CA, USA
  7. Chateau Whistler Golf Club: BC, Canada
  8. Latrobe Country Club: PA, USA

The added capability doesn’t mean the Mevo Gen 2 is any less portable. It is equipped with a battery that’s rated for 6 hours.

The Mevo Gen 2 is available right now, and retails for $1,199. With club championships, end-of-season trips, and the offseason approaching, this is the best time to add a launch monitor to your arsenal so you can keep—and improve—your game.
