The FootJoy Pro/SL is Back — And It’s Better Than Ever

The FootJoy Pro/SL has been a staple in the spikeless golf shoe world for more than a decade. And when something works that well, you don’t just tweak it for the sake of change.

So when FootJoy says they rebuilt this one from the ground up — with direct input from Tour players — it’s worth paying attention.

The new Pro/SL isn’t just a refresh. It’s a full reimagining focused on one thing: performance.

Built With Tour-Level Input

According to Patrick Trubiano, Director of Product Management for FJ Footwear, this wasn’t about cosmetic upgrades. The goal was simple: deliver the best possible golf performance in a spikeless package.

Z-TEC Upper: Support Without Feeling Stiff

At the core of the new Pro/SL is what FootJoy calls Z-TEC upper technology. It’s a multi-layer construction designed to wrap the foot with targeted support and flexibility.

Translation? It helps you feel connected to the ground while still allowing natural movement through the swing.

The design works to harness and transfer energy more efficiently — so you’re not fighting your footwear when you’re trying to make a move at the ball.

ARCTrax/SL Outsole: Spikeless Grip That Actually Grips

Spikeless shoes have come a long way, and the new ARCTrax/SL outsole takes things up another level. The strategically placed traction cones and fins are built specifically for golf — not just general athletic use.

The result is maximum ground contact and stability across different lies and surfaces. Whether you’re hitting from a damp fairway or uneven terrain, the outsole is designed to keep you planted.

29% Lighter (And Noticeably More Comfortable)

One of the most impressive upgrades? The new Pro/SL is 29% lighter than the previous generation.

That lighter build is paired with a StratoFOAM heel crash pad to absorb impact while walking, plus a 3D padded collar and breathable mesh lining for a more dialed-in fit. FootJoy also slightly widened the toe box, giving you a little more room up front — which can make a big difference in overall comfort and ground feel.

This is clearly designed for golfers who walk — not just ride.

Tour Validation

Tour players have already made the switch, including PGA Tour pro Sahith Theegala. His feedback highlights what many competitive players look for in a golf shoe: the right balance between stability and freedom of movement.

For players who generate speed and move aggressively through the swing, that stable-but-not-stiff feel is critical.

“The big thing for me; Pro/SL provides the right amount of stability vs. flexibility…I move a lot in my golf swing and the shoe allows me to move without losing that stable connection to the ground.”

– Sahith Theegala

The Bottom Line

The Pro/SL has always been one of the leaders in the spikeless category. But this version feels like more than an update — it feels like a statement.

Lighter. More connected. More stable. And built with real Tour feedback.

If you’ve worn previous versions, this one sounds like a meaningful step forward. And if you haven’t tried Pro/SL before, this might be the one worth slipping on.

As Theegala put it: you’ve got to try it on to feel the difference.
