Augusta National Just Bought A Record Store
No, the folks at Augusta aren’t getting into the music business. Instead, it’s another move by the group to gather as much land as possible around the storied golf course. According to a Golf Digest report, they’ve spent roughly $55 million on acquiring 100 acres of land around the club.
Dating back to the early 2000s, an Augusta National-affiliated limited liability company has been snatching up residential and commercial properties only to tear down any buildings and grass-over the land. It seems Jay’s Music Center is next in line for such a destiny.

But don’t feel too bad for owner Doug Frohman. While neither party would discuss financial details, public records show Frohman sold the three-quarter acre of land and its building for a cool $5.35 million. It’s taxable value is estimated to be just $670,000. So Dougie is going to be just fine. In fact, he already has plans of reopening the music center in a building twice the size of his current one.
Meanwhile, there are reports of a deal in the makings between Augusta National and it’s neighbor, Augusta Country Club, on yet another land acquisition. It just so happens that Augusta Country Club is the owner of the land directly behind the tee box of the iconic 13th hole at Augusta National. So don’t be surprised in the coming years when the par-5, 510-yard hole gets yet another “lengthening.”
