European Tour Fantasy Golf Picks and Predictions for the BMW PGA Championship
The BMW PGA Championship European Tour Fantasy Preview
At last: a European Tour event we can really sink our teeth into. After the B-grade Open de Portugal and the guesswork of the Rocco Forte Open, daily fantasy gamers finally have an event hoisted high by a quality field at a course that is easy to love.
The BMW PGA Championship, hosted by Wentworth, will see the finest players that the European Tour has to offer going toe-to-toe. There are major winners (Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer), possible future major champions (Alex Noren, Thomas Pieters, Tyrrell Hatton) and the last two winners here at Wentworth (Byeong Hun An, Chris Wood), as well as an array of other hugely talented players to pick from. For DFS managers, our cup runneth over.
The West Course at Wentworth has been given a considerable facelift in time for this tournament, with nine of the greens either reshaped or rebuilt and a sub-air system integrated to ensure they play speedier than normal, while 30 bunkers have been removed which should naturally aid scoring. With a mini heatwave hitting the UK this week, a winning score of around -20 is not out of the question.
The last few champions here share a few common attributes: they are all young talents with a fantastic tee-to-green game. We’re talking Wood, An, Rory McIlroy, and even Matteo Manassero when he burst onto the scene a few years ago.
There is pressure for the British players of duking it out for honors in front of the home crowd, but then Wood landed this title 12 months ago and Matt Fitzpatrick won the British Masters at Woburn in 2015, so actually it could be considered an advantage as much as anything.
The hardest part this week is making some difficult decisions with your fantasy draft; there really is so much competition at each price point. But using a strong tee-to-green game as a marker, plus form both here at Wentworth and Woburn, we’ve identified six picks who will serve you well in DraftKings and other fantasy contests this week:

The BMW PGA Championship European Tour Fantasy Picks
Tyrrell Hatton – $9,700 – There is a small queue of players that have graduated from the European Tour just looking to make their breakout moment, and for Hatton victory at Wentworth would be one of those for sure.
He grew up 30 minutes from the course and would watch the event as a youngster, and his experience as an English amateur champion on parkland courses like this will stand him in great stead.
Hatton has won the Alfred Dunhill Links and has top-tens to his name in The Open and the Scottish Open, and so going low on this kind of test will be nothing new to him.
A consistent top-ten merchant – including three on the spin on the PGA TOUR earlier in the year, Hatton has wobbled a bit since The Masters but a return to home soil (he finished T7 here 12 months ago) will surely spur him on to another excellent showing.
Tommy Fleetwood – $9,200 – Like Hatton, you suspect it won’t be long until Tommy Fleetwood makes a huge breakthrough in world golf, and his performances in 2017 so far suggest he is edging closer. He won the Abu Dhabi Championship earlier in the year to end a long trophy drought, and since then has kicked on by finishing second in the WGC Mexico and the China Open.
That suggests that this accurate, GIR specialist has a game that travels well, but clearly being back in England will be a huge advantage. Growing up in Southport, Fleetwood would have played on numerous parkland style courses and his form in relevant events – T6 here in 2015, T13, and T4 at Woburn in the past two years – is testament to that.
Accurate off the tee with a rock solid iron game, the equation is simple for Fleetwood this week: putt well and go and win that trophy.
Ian Poulter – $8,200 – The Englishman will return home this week with a swagger in his step….well, more of a swagger than usual anyway!
Retaining his PGA TOUR card on a technicality, Poulter has taken full advantage with a string of impressive showings of late, including a T11 at the RBC Heritage and that outstanding T2 at THE PLAYERS Championship.
He doesn’t play much golf in Europe these days given that he is based in Florida, but class travels and you would expect Poulter will be desperate to show the European Tour what they have been missing in his own inimitable style.
Paul Dunne – $7,500 – He’s not the most celebrated name in world golf, but you fancy these parkland tests, as well as Links golf, will ultimately serve up Dunne’s finest moments.
Don’t forget, this is the young man who led The Open after 54 holes as an amateur, and who already has a top-25 finish to his name at Woburn despite only turning pro a couple of years ago.
The form is there too with a T6 at the Tshwane Open backed by T2 at Trophee Hassan, so the Irishman is definitely one to watch this week.
Thomas Aiken – $7,000 – Parkland golf rewards straight hitting, and they don’t come much more accurate than Thomas Aiken.
His driving accuracy (66%) and GIR stats (79.1%) speak for themselves, and it’s no surprise to note that the South African finished T4 here 12 months ago.
Since then he has played in 14 European Tour events and delivered a stack of quality performances: six top-20s in all, which includes top-fives in Qatar and South Africa (x2).
Aiken tends to show well when playing in events where tight golf ball control are key, so let’s hope for another decent effort at Wentworth this week.
James Morrison – $6,600 – The Englishman has been so consistently good over the last few months that it would not be a huge surprise if he was to make the next step at Wentworth.
Morrison’s lowest finish in his last six starts is T31, with a pair of top-fives and a couple of other excellent showings the pick of his 2017 so far.
He made the cut at both Wentworth and Woburn last season, and for his $6,600 salary we would expect him to well outperform expectations this week.
