There are many athletes who have moved on to political activism once retiring from their sports careers. While many of these athletes do not become involved enough to run for office, one LPGA pro is looking to move straight from the Tour to the Capitol.

Reports have surfaced in recent days that popular women’s golfer Natalie Gulbis is mulling a run for the congressional seat in Nevada’s third congressional district. Gulbis is a resident of Lake Las Vegas, Nevada, in the heart of the district that she will hope to represent. The seat has recently become available after incumbent Jacky Rosen stated she would vacate the seat to run for one of the state’s Senate seats.

Gulbis is technically still a member of the LPGA TOUR and has competed in three events this season. This is a low amount of participation, however, and has led many to believe that she could be entering retirement. the 34-year old has only won one event on the LPGA TOUR but has a perennial contender in major championships many times.

The possibility of Gulbis gaining a nomination and winning the seat isn’t as much of a stretch as you might think. “I think there is intrigue and she definitely has some interest but everyone, including Natalie, is trying to figure out whether it is the right fit,” a well-connected Nevada GOP strategist was quoted as saying. “NRCC is casting a wide net and they rarely engage pre-primary.”

Gulbis has long been a strong political voice, often describing her conservative views. Gulbis even spoke at the most recent Republican National Convention, stumping for President Trump. Running as a Republican in her district would be beneficial for her, as her party hasn’t lost a race for Nevada’s third district since 2008.

While it is all still speculation for now, if Gulbis does run and win the seat, she will have to go from entertaining the public to serving them.
