After a remarkable comeback and dealing with one of the most difficult courses in U.S. Open memory, Brooks Koepka was able to repeat as champion. But that win might have taken everything out of him.

After becoming the first back-to-back champion since 1989, Koepka was able to celebrate with his wife and some of his friends but life as a PGA TOUR pro never stops. After winning and celebrating, Koepka jumped on a plane to return to his home of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He arrived at 4 a.m. but wasn’t able to get much sleep.

Koepka described how he was woken up by his friend and neighbor, Dustin Johnson at 8 a.m. when he came over to say hi. But after that, the two were off to Connecticut to compete in the Travelers Championship.

In such a whirlwind of travel, Koepka admitted to the media on Thursday that he wasn’t even sure where he left his trophy. But he assured everyone that it was still in his possession.

According to Koepka, the trophy may or may not just be chilling in his kitchen. “It’s at my house, just chillin’,” Koepka said. “I don’t even know where we left it, to be honest with you. I was trying to sleep so much that I left it, I think, on the kitchen counter. I don’t even know.” Hopefully, some crazed fan didn’t hear that and is now plotting to break in and steal it.

As for Koepka’s performance at the Travelers Championship, he started off by riding the high of his U.S. Open win, putting up strong numbers early. But the exhaustion seemed to have set in, as he bogeyed his final four holes to finish with a 68 on his first round. He’s set to continue his round on Friday, hoping to make the cut.

I guess if I were a back-to-back major champion, I wouldn’t worry so much about holding onto the trophy either but it’s pretty wild that Koepka doesn’t know for sure where it’s at. Hopefully, once the Travelers Championship is over, Koepka can get some rest and put the trophy in a safe place.
