Galvin Green SHAKEDRY – A Rain Jacket That’s Waterproof and Weighs Only 6 Ounces
As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” And that’s great, because golf courses need plenty if rain so the grass can be healthy and green once the 2019 golf season gets fully underway.
But that doesn’t do any favors for the dedicated among us who aren’t deterred from golfing just because a little precipitation is in the forecasts.
Galvin Green, one of the most well-known brands in golf outerwear, understands that not even an all-day rain storm could discourage some of us from teeing it up and squeezing in a round. As a result, Galvin Green just released its new streamlined GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY rain jacket.

Galvin Green states that the SHAKEDRY rain jacket has been going through various stages of development over the past 15 years.
Debuted in the ASHTON full-zip jacket, SHAKEDRY features, for the first time, a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane that is positioned on the outside of the garment, which causes water to simply bead up and roll off the exterior of the ASHTON.

While SHAKEDRY’s waterproof properties standing alone are already impressive, Galvin Green really took it to the next level when they were able to make the ASHTON weigh only 174 grams (which is 6 ounces). For perspective that’s approximately HALF the weight of the conventional-lined waterproof jacket.
In other words, SHAKEDRY is the lightest, waterproof jacket ever.

Additionally, the new use of GORE-TEX has significantly improved breathability, reduced unnecessary noise, and essentially eliminated excess friction in the golf swing. Accordingly, the SHAKEDRY is designed to provide maximum dryness and comfort while playing golf, particularly during the golf swing, as noted by Galvin Green US President, Steve Hendren:
[SHAKEDRY] will never wet-out, leak or cling onto the skin. It’s the perfect jacket for serious golfers who want to perform in the rain. In play tests, a pro golfer said it was like playing in a shirt.
In addition to the full-zip design, the ASHTON will also feature shaped sleeves, elastic binding at the end of the cuffs, a drawstring at the hem, and water-repellent zippers and a chest pocket.
Perhaps the only drawback is the price: $400.
But, then again, for the golfer who is will regularly play in the rain, staying dry and comfortable is probably invaluable.
