Just For Fun
FUNNY: Hideki Matsuyama Teaches Tiger, Rory, and Jason Day Japanese
If you haven’t noticed by now, the PGA TOUR is full of a bunch of pranksters and personalities that create some great content. And this week, it’s Hideki Matsuyama that’s delivering the laughs for all fans.
With the new golf season officially underway, this is about the time of year where the PGA TOUR goes international and starts pushing a lot of social media to sponsor some of their more unknown events. One of those events that are coming up in just a few weeks is The Challenge: Japan Skins. Being played in Japan just before the Zozo Championship, there are a lot of big names that are going to be playing in this tourney.
The Japan Skins exhibition is one of the PGA TOUR’s ways of trying to rebuild the popularity of the skins game. I’m sure many of you already know what Skins is but just as a refresher, to play Skins, you put down money on every hole. Whoever wins the hole wins the money. If you tie your opponent(s) on any hole, the money carries over to the next hole until someone wins.

It’s definitely a fun game but can easily put a nice dent into your wallet. That’s why it’s probably better that the pros are putting down their money at this event. Among those playing this week, Hideki Matsuyama, Tiger Woods, Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy. And before the event starts on October 21st, the PGA TOUR thought it might be beneficial for players to learn the Japanese language.
So Professor Matsuyama decided to teach his three colleagues his native tongue. All of the guys asked Matsuyama how to say some trash talk in Japanese and of course, Hideki told them to say something that means something completely different. But Matsuyama did teach the guys some real phrases and Tiger and Jason Day picked it up rather well. McIlroy, however, seemed to struggle. You’ll have to watch to fully understand.
The Japanese class is a great little promo for the PGA TOUR to gain interest in this event and I think it might just bring in some more views. For those who would like to watch the Skins matchup, tune in to Golf Channel starting on October 21 at midnight.
