BETS: Gambling Futures, Matchups, and More // The Charles Schwab Challenge
It’s tournament week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Man, I’ve been waiting so long to say that. It’s been a long awaited return of the PGA Tour ever since THE PLAYERS got canceled after just one round. Although we were given the TaylorMade Driving Relief and The Match 2.0, those just didn’t really compare to tournament golf.
I’ll be back to giving you my best picks every week, and we can make everyone some money. Every week I’ll give a certain number of futures I like, some tournament matchups, and finally round by round matchups can be found on the Pin High Podcast instagram stories or posts (@thepinhighpod). That being said, let’s get into it and let my picks speak for themselves.
Futures
To Win The Charles Schwab Challenge: Rickie Fowler (+2800) and Kevin Kisner (+8000)
I think it is worth it on a week like this that is so unique in that nobody really knows how everyone is going to play to throw down two futures on guys to win, especially with such great value. Rickie Fowler has a pretty good history at Colonial although he hasn’t played much of it since earlier in his career.
He was dialed in with his irons and his putter at Seminole Golf Club for the Driving Relief match, which will be key if he is going to take home the trophy this week. As for Kevin Kisner, he’s won here in the past and the course fits his game to a tee. He’s not a long hitter, which won’t hurt him, and he’s an excellent ball striker as well as putter. 80-1 for that? Snag that as quick as you can say Boom Sauce.
Top 10 Finish: Ryan Moore (+1200)
We spoke with Jason Sobel of The Action Network on the podcast this week (Pin High Podcast on the Golficity network go give it a listen) and he was telling us that Moore belongs to Colonial Country Club and shot a cool 64 last week when warming up for the tournament. He’s very familiar with the course obviously and with this value, it’s hard to pass up on him to sneak in the top 10. If you’re not comfortable with that, he’s still a whopping +600 to come in the top 20.
Top 20 Finish: Kevin Kisner (+350)
I hate to ride with one guy, but even +350 is great value for him to come top 20 in such a comfortable event for him. When this one hits, even if he doesn’t win, you’ll come out profiting between this and the future for him to win.
Tournament Matchups
Matt Kuchar (-120) over Matthew Fitzpatrick
This was my “best bet” on the podcast this week and I have to say I love Matt Kuchar in this tournament if you’re looking for another guy to place a future on. I’m fading Fitzpatrick throughout the week and Kuchar should take this one easy on a course that fits his conservative keep it in the fairway mentality.
Ryan Moore (-125) over Rory Sabbatini
This seems like an absolute lay up to me. Rory Sabbatini’s best outing of the year was a T21 at the Sony Open, which has an average field at best and has failed to crack the top 30 in a tournament other than that. Love Ryan Moore this week, let’s ride him.
Fade(s) of the Week:
Matthew Fitzpatrick and Dustin Johnson
I mentioned Matthew Fitzpatrick earlier, and my rationale is that he didn’t get to play a ton over this break because he was in England, and this could be a tournament where he is just working on getting his feet under him. Dustin Johnson looked incredibly rusty in the Driving Relief match, putting multiple balls in the water at Seminole and went 40 days without picking up a club. Look for him to be a bit rusty and try to expose him in some round by round matchups.
Wild Card Bet of the Week
Matt Kuchar Low Georgia Tech Scorer (-137)
He is the best Georgia Tech player in the field so far, and I have to give a shoutout to my guy Jason Sobel for coming on the podcast this week with this one in his back pocket. What an absolute lock.
Well guys, this is quite an unpredictable week, but I am confident in the picks we’re putting out there. Let’s make some bread this week.
