BETS: Matchups, Faders, Straight Up Winners, & More // Travelers Championship
We are back with another week of golf, and the fields just keep getting better.
Just for a little recap of last week, Patrick Reed really put up a stinker for two days and got cut, so our winning future did not materialize out at Harbour Town Golf Links. But we did hit a rather solid +400 future with Tyrell Hatton notching a 3rd place finish and winning our Top 10 bet. I was really high on him, so it’s nice to hit a bet with such good value like that. The tournament matchup of Ian Poulter over Sergio Garcia had some of the worst luck I’ve seen in a long time.
Poulter was -7 with the 1st round lead after day one and had 6 strokes on Sergio, but an absolutely out of character rest of the week from Sergio gave him the win. Terrible luck, but on that note, let’s get into this week’s picks at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, CT.
To Win The Travelers Championship: Brooks Koepka (+2200)
I am incredibly high on Brooks Koepka this week, and you can hear more about that on Wednesday’s Pin High Podcast, but he is playing some really good golf right now. I think his numbers can be a little misleading because when he’s not playing his best golf, he’s not much of a threat to contend, but last week both his driving accuracy and GIR% were above 70 percent, which is something I am very high on this week. He’ll be able to take advantage of the Par 5’s, the majority of those 400-450 yard par 4’s, and of course the 2nd shortest par 4 on Tour at 296 yards.
To Finish Top 10: Abraham Ancer (+275)
Abe is probably the hottest player on Tour right now maybe outside of Daniel Berger. He finished T14 at the Charles Schwab and had a solo 2nd finish this past week at the RBC Heritage. After hitting 18 of 18 greens on Sunday, he put himself in position to win, but came up short. I think he’s a good pick to keep the momentum going.
Tournament Matchups:
Justin Thomas (-137) over Jon Rahm
We talked a little bit about this on the Golficity Bets IGTV series “Skins” but JT is playing lights out golf. Not to say that Rahm isn’t playing well, but there does seem to be a big gap between the two’s games right now.
Bryson DeChambeau (-110) over Rory McIlroy
These are a lot of big names for some tournament matchups, but this is another one where I think Bryson is playing a lot better golf. With the exception of a few stupid mistakes, Bryson could have won each of the last two tournaments, and I think he continues that at a place where he’s had success in the past.
Max Homa (-137) over Harry Higgs
I’m going to give a third pick this week because I really like this matchup. Max Homa played great last weekend with the exception of a pretty eh putting week. That being said, his ball striking was good enough that he played those tough par 3’s at -5. This week, we move over to his preferred surface, poa greens, and I think he revs it up a bit.
That’ll be all for this week’s picks, make sure to stay tuned on the @thepinhighpod and @golficitybets instagrams for round by round matchups.
Let’s make some money this week.
