While Collin Morikawa was pulling off his unbelievable comeback win, Lydia Ko was doing the exact opposite on the LPGA Tour.

Since the PGA Championship was this weekend, I have a feeling that a lot of golf fans weren’t all that focused on the LPGA Tour. The ladies were playing the Marathon Classic this week and Lydia Ko was on top of her game. Ko, a former long-reigning women’s #1 golfer in the world, had a five shot lead going into the last six holes of the tournament. And that’s where it all went downhill.

Ko was playing with fellow golfer Danielle Kang who was in second for most of the final round. After bogeying the 12th hole, Kang found herself at that five-shot deficit and thought it was over. That was until she ripped off two birdies and four pars to end the round while Ko rapidly began dropping shots. It all ended up culminating in a ridiculous final hole.

On the 18th, a par 5, both Ko and Kang were hitting terrible shots, finding the rough off of the fairway and then the greenside bunkers. Kang had to take two shots just to get out of the bunker and have a par putt. Ko on the other hand shanked a chip and then had a subpar bunker shot that only gave her a bogey putt. So not only did Ko lose the lead, she was putting just to force a playoff. A putt that Ko ended up missing, completing Kang’s unreal comeback.

In the end, Ko had the right to be frustrated but she was a good sport about the whole thing. “Even my first chip. If I had hit it 4 feet shorter, then maybe it would’ve stayed on the green. Who knows?” Ko said. “When you look back, you’re like, `Maybe I should have done this, maybe I should have done that.’ But, I mean, what can you do?”

Overall, you could say it was a wild weekend of golf comebacks on both the male and female tour. And if golf keeps up the suspense like this, we may still have one of our most exciting years in the sport yet.
