IMPRESSIVE: Rafael Nadal Shows Skill On The Golf Course

There is often a lot of talk when an athlete or celebrity pop up to compete on a professional golf tour in the U.S. – But that seems to be happening more and more overseas, as can be seen by what happened in Spain this past weekend.

Rafael Nadal is riding a huge wave of confidence this month. The tennis star was able to capture his record-tying 20th Grand Slam title in tennis just a few weeks ago after winning the Roland Garros, which is the French Open for those unfamiliar with tennis events. But he’s also carrying that momentum outside of tennis, stretching it into golf.

The Spaniard decided that he wasn’t going to take it easy after such a monumental win and figured he would keep his hot sports month going by heading out to the links. Nadal competed in the Balearic Golf Championship in Spain and decided to put on another show. Nadal not only played in the event, but he was also in contention for the title.

Nadal ended up finishing 9th overall in the entire tournament after posting a three-day total +9. That put him 10 strokes behind the eventual winner, Sebastian Garcia, but that was mostly because of a poor final round where he shot 77. Still, it’s mighty impressive that Nadal was able to score a top-ten finish on a Spanish professional tour, playing against guys who actually do this for a living rather than a side hustle.

While many may say that his finish isn’t super impressive, placing that well on a pro tour is a lot more than guys like Tony Romo can say playing in multiple professional events in the U.S. every year. Plus, he’s doing it while he’s used to playing with a tennis swing, he’s not in an offseason. In fact, he’ll be back in action on the tennis courts in just a week at the Paris-Masters tournament.

While it’s a treat to see Nadal play on the tennis court, a finish like this makes us crave seeing him play against even better professionals on the golf course. Maybe that could be a retirement option for Rafa but for now, I think he’ll just focus on breaking the record for most grand slam victories.
