Maybe this is what happens when you lock up club designers for a few months…BUT 2020 continues to be the year of iron releases: (1) TaylorMade and the P770, P7MC and P7MB irons, (2) Mizuno and the JPX921 Irons (Hot Metal, Forged and Tour) (3) Titleist and the CNCPT CP-03 and CP-04 irons, (4) Callaway and the Apex MB and X Forged CB, and (5) Cobra KING Tour Irons with MIM.

And now, adding to that list of “things I need to try ASAP,” Wilson Golf has released the successor to its very popular Staff FG Tour V6 Irons: the Staff Model CB irons.

Engineered for performance expected by a tour-level player, the CB Irons are an evolution of the award-winning Tour V6 Irons, the most popular choice among Wilson players on the PGA TOUR including three-time Major Champion Padraig Harrington, Kevin Streelman, Kevin Tway, and Ricky Barnes.

“Wilson continues to strive to make the best, most respected irons in the world,” said Jon Pergande Manager of Golf Club Innovation. “The Staff Model CB Irons are aesthetically pleasing to the elite player and with the new Tri-Brace stabilizer providing a structural connection between the topline and the central impact mass we have stabilized the topline enhancing the energy transfer to the ball while also providing improved sound and feel.”

The two largest improvements made to the CB irons are the (1) Tri-Brace stabilizer and (2) the repositioned tungsten. Both work together to increase stability, MOI (forgiveness) and feel.

The Tri-Brace stabilizer technology is embodied in the 3 raised “bars” visible in the cavity-section of each iron, and help provide additional structural rigidity to the cavity while making the club feel more solid at impact.

In conjunction with the Tri-Brace stabilizer, the 20-grams of tungsten weighting in the toe of the long and mid irons enhances head stability at impact and lowers the center of gravity for reliably consistent shots. The face is precision milled along with the scorelines a carry over from the Staff Model Blade.

A forged 8620 carbon steel face is backed by an integrated Impact Mass Area, providing a solid, muscle back-like feel, but with a cavity back design, delivering maximum consistency during shot shaping.

“We listened to and worked closely with our advisory staff and tour professionals to create the Wilson Staff Model CB Irons,” Pergande continued, “The CB Irons combine the best of V6 and Staff Model blade to create our most advanced forged irons, the CB Irons will meet all the needs for the advanced player.”

The new CB Irons are clad in a nickel-chrome plating, a high-end mirror finish and completed with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips.  The Staff Model CB irons also maintain more traditionalist lofts, which are perfect for a better player’s, forged iron:

The Wilson Staff CB irons will be available on Wilson.com and retailers starting on January 15th, 2021, with a retail price of $999.99 (4 through PW). A Gap Wedge, along with 2 and 3 irons, are all available for custom orders.

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron. And despite living in NYC, Eric makes it a priority to work on his game and fitness during the week, along with a round or two over the weekend. Fortunately, he’s got a very understanding fiancé who (for the time being) accepts him and his obsession. Follow Eric on IG @hozel_rocket.
