BREAKING: Srixon ZX Series Metal Woods
Srixon has been making some of the best irons in the market over the past few years, winning praise among golfers and various awards among reviewers. Likewise, the Cleveland wedges, specifically the RTX4s and RTX ZipCore’s, have also been a huge success.
Accordingly, the only thing Srixon needs now to have a complete, award-winning bag is release some quality metal woods to the market.

Matching the naming from Srixon’s newest iron releases, the ZX5 and ZX7 metal woods look to squeeze every ounce of ball speed out of the club-head with Rebound Frame Technology, which will be featured in the new ZX-series drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.
With the clear limits on how “hot” a driver face can be, every OEM is looking for a new way to generate ball speed. Callaway released its A.I.-designed faces with the Epic Flash, Titleist just released its new TSi’s with ATI 425 titanium, and Srixon is now debuting Rebound Frame Technology, with the idea being that specific areas of the club-head benefit from being more rigid, while others benefit from having some additional flex.

Srixon describes its new design philosophy as a spring that, with the help of the rigid sections, will help impart more energy into the ball for greater ball speeds (and, ultimately, more distance).
But to help make sure that the ZX metal woods don’t turn into 1-trick pony rocket launchers, Srixon also incorporated a strong, lightweight carbon crown that’s 15% larger than previous models and allows more weight to be placed lower and around the clubhead, stabilizing it on off-center strikes and, thus, creating higher MOI.
With respect to the two different models, the ZX5 is the more forgiving model that was designed to be higher launching, straighter flying and more forgiving. As a result, the ZX5 features a higher MOI that’s coupled with additional rear weighting. While the stock rear weight is 8g, launch conditions can be fine tuned with 4g, 6g, 10g, or 12g depending on the desired swing weight.
Conversely, the ZX7 is the lower flying, more penetrating option that sacrifices some MOI due to a more-forward positioned center of gravity. To help dial in flight conditions, the ZX7 will feature two sole weights.
Both drivers will also feature an adjustable hosel sleeve, allowing golfers to adjust loft (plus or minus 1°), face angle (open or close up to 2°) and lie angle (plus or minus up to 2°). This kind of adjustability can’t be understated, as bonded hosel drivers are a thing of the past and super-thin crowns (which are great for increasing MOI) make it near impossible to physically tweak everything.
The ZX5 and ZX7 drivers are both 460cc heads and will come in 9.5° and 10.5° for both righties and lefties. The ZX5’s stock shaft is a Project X EvenFlow Riptide, a mid-flight, mid-spin shaft. Golfers can option for the HZRDUS Smoke Black if they need a lower-flight, low-spin setup, which happens to be the ZX7’s stock shaft.
Retail pricing will be $530 for the ZX7 and $500 for the ZX5 when they go on sale starting January 15th.
As stated earlier, the Srixon ZX fairways and hybrids will also feature Rebound Frame Technology. However, a unique feature of the fairways will be the Cannon Sole: a floating sole weight that allows for an extremely thin, flexible sole area just behind the face that will promote ideal launch conditions.

The ZX fairways will be available in 3+ (13.5°), 3 (15.0°), 5 (18.0°), and 7 (21.0°), and will also come standard with the HZRDUS Smoke Black. While the 3 and 5 woods will be available in right and left-handed variants, the 3+ and 7 woods are both right hand exclusive.
The ZX hybrid, meanwhile, will come in 2 (16°), 3 (19°), 4 (22°), 5 (25°) and 6 (28°), also standard with the HZRDUS Smoke Black. The 2, 5, and 6 hybrids are right-handed only models, while the 3 and 4 are available for both righties and lefties.

The ZX fairways and hybrids will also go on sale January 15th, and will retail at $269 and $229, respectively.
While we won’t be able to test anything at demo day this year, hopefully our friends at Club Champion will let us conduct some club testing as more 2021 model stuff comes in!
