It’s December, and since there’s no PGA Show this year, expect the 2020 OEM equipment releases to start rolling out over the next week. Indeed, yesterday Srixon debuted its new ZX metal woods lineup and today, well, today is Cobra’s turn:

Whereas the 2020 Cobra lineup had 2 models, Cobra will be bringing to market 3 different RADSPEED models: the RadSpeed, RadSpeed XB (Xtreme Back) and RadSpeed XD (Xtreme Draw).

But before we get into the differences between each of the models, let’s first discuss what RADSPEED is. Prepare for things to get scientific…

RADSPEED refers to an engineering concept called Radius of Gyration, which Cobra describes as the distance from a club’s center of gravity (CG) to whichever point of mass is used in the structure (most commonly, added weights). With respect to Cobra’s drivers, for example, it means they extended the added weights on the sole of the drivers more toward the edges to boost MOI (moment of inertia (i.e., forgiveness) and overall performance.

Similar to other drivers with adjustable weighting, Cobra’s radial weighting strategy also helps dial in spin and trajectory throughout the entire lineup.

In addition to RADSPEED engineering permeating through the 2021 Cobra lineup, each of the models will share the T-Bar chassis construction, which is now lighter, and Cobra’s now-signature CNC Infinity Milled Face, which ensure greater consistency and allow for tighter manufacturing tolerances.

Now, with respect to each of the different models. First is the RadSpeed (available in 9.0° and 10.5° heads, with 1.5° of adjustability), which is designed with lower and fade-biased ball flights that tend to be best-suited for high speed players. In accord with that player profile, the Radspeed model has most of its weight directly behind the face for a more forward CG. Adjustable weighting allows for up to 28 grams of extra weight up front (16 grams of fixed weight and 12 grams of adjustable weight) and an additional 10 grams positioned in the back (8 grams fixed, 2 grams adjustable).

Next is the RadSpeed XB (available in 9.0°, 10.5° and 12° heads, with 1.5° of adjustability), which is designed for golfers who need a bit more height and forgiveness on their drives. To complement that player and ball flight, the RadSpeed XB has weights positioned in the rear of the club head to move the CG further back. Specifically, the RadSpeed XB has 20 grams of weight positioned back (14 grams of fixed weight and 6 grams of adjustable weight) with 8 grams of fixed weight up front.

Finally, the RadSpeed XD (available in 10.5° and 12° heads, with 1.5° of adjustability), which is, simply, the “slice killer” in the lineup. Like many other draw-biased drivers, the RadSpeed XD features weighting, specifically 10 grams here, located in the heel to help the face turn over more easily and promote a right-to-left ball flight. In addition to the draw-promoting weighting, the RadSpeed XD also features 14 additional grams of weight in the rear end of the club head for even more forgiveness.

As you may have noticed from the photos, the RadSpeed drivers will follow the SpeedZone models and offer multiple color options. Specifically, the RadSpeed lineup will be available in Matte Black/Turbo Yellow and Matte Peacoat Blue/Arsenal Red. As for shaft options, the RadSpeed lineup can be equipped with the Fujikura Motore X F1 (low launch/low spin), Project X HZRDUS RDX Blue (mid launch/low spin), Fujikura Motore X F3 (mid launch/mid spin) or Project X Even Flow Riptide (high launch/mid spin).

Regardless which setup you go with, the RadSpeed drivers will be priced at $449 and go on sale January 15, 2021.

Where 3 is good, four is better, which is exactly what Cobra did with the RadSpeed fairway lineup, which includes 4 different models: the RadSpeed, RadSpeed Draw, RadSpeed Big Tour and RadSpeed Tour.

Similar to the drivers, all of the RadSpeed fairways will be equipped with RADSPEED engineering and strategic weight placement that aligns with the player-profile for each different model, along with CNC milled faces; however, only the standard RadSpeed and RadSpeed Draw will feature the Infinity Milled Faces.

To summarize the player profile for each different model, the RadSpeed will offer a traditional shape and balanced performance for golfers of all skills levels. The head will feature 23 grams of radial weighting in the head, with 16g in the front and 7g in the back. The RadSpeed will come in 3W (14.5°), 5W (18.5°) and 7W (22.5°) variants.

The RadSpeed Draw, as the name alludes to, is designed to promote a left-to-right ball flight and, as a result, will feature 23 grams of radial weighting in the head, with 16g positioned in heel and 7g in the back. The RadSpeed Draw will come in 3W (14.5°), 5W (18.5°) and 7W (22.5°) variants.

Finally, the RadSpeed Big Tour and RadSpeed Tour. If you’re wondering why I’m grouping these together, it’s because they complement each other in light of the fact that the RadSpeed Big Tour is only available in 3W (13.5°), whereas the RadSpeed Tour is only available in 5W (17.5°). Setting that aside, the RadSpeed Big Tour and RadSpeed Tour both have all 23 grams of radial weighting positioned in the front of the head to promote low-spin.

Furthermore, the RadSpeed, RadSpeed Draw and RadSpeed Tour all feature redesigned Baffler Rails to promote better turf interaction.

Finally, the new RadSpeed hybrids, which are available as either the RadSpeed Hybrid and RadSpeed Tour Hybrid. While the RadSpeed hybrids feature the RADSPEED engineering and strategic weight placement and the Baffler Rails, they will not feature the CNC milled faces and, instead, will be equipped with forged faces.

However, that doesn’t diminish performance, as Cobra has strategically placed the weighting in the RadSpeed hybrids to have low-CG and low-spin to increase ball height and overall distance. The difference between the models will be that the RadSpeed Hybrid will have a rear-positioned weight to help move the CG back and promote a higher flight, while the RadSpeed Tour Hybrid has a forward-positioned weight and will promote a more penetrating flight.

The RadSpeed hybrids will be available in 2H (17.0°), 3H (19.0°), 4H (21.0°) and 5H (24.0°).

In closing, the RadSpeed fairways will retail at $279 while the RadSpeed hybrids will retail at $229. Both will be available starting January 29, 2021.

Similar to the SpeedZone, the Cobra RadSpeed drivers, fairways and hybrids all will feature Cobra Connect powered by Arccos, meaning every club comes with an embedded electronic sensor in the grip to automatically record the distance and accuracy of every shot so golfers can track their improvements round-to-round.
