TRAVEL: Famed Long Island Golf Course Coming to Wisconsin
Despite having to deal with the change in seasons and a mandatory ~4 month break during the winter, Long Island has an impressive portfolio of top tier golf courses: Bethpage, Montauk Down, Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links of America, Fishers Island, Maidstone, Friar’s Head, Sebonack and Deepdale just to name a few.

But one name absent from that list is famed Lido Golf Club.
Ironically, though, regulars on PGA Tour 2K21 have probably seen the name “Lido” and wondered “Where the hell is this place?”
Well, the reason why you’ve probably never heard of it is that Lido Golf Club, despite being a C.B. Macdonald (the man behind NGL, Piping Rock and the Mid Ocean Club) masterpiece that was called “the greatest golf course ever” by Masters winner Claude Harmon, was destroyed by the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Fortunately, the Lido Golf Club will rise from shores of Long Island and be reborn in Central Wisconsin…
The Lido Golf Course at Sand Valley – Opening 2023
The Lido Golf Club – designed by C.B. Macdonald – was formed on the shores of Long Island in 1914. It was touted by many historians as one of the greatest go…
Yes, you read that right, Wisconsin. Indeed, over the past few years, the piece of land that touches two of the Great Lakes has become a golf destination hot spot with the help of sites like Sand Valley, Whistling Straits and Erin Hills.
And to keep up the momentum, Michael Jr. and Chris Keiser (the sons of Mike Keiser, who is responsible for the Bandon Dunes and Cabot Links golf resorts) have retained the services of Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design (responsible for Pacific Dunes, Barnbougle Dunes and Cape Kidnappers) to revive one of the most revered course designs from the pages of history.

The course is tentatively scheduled to be open for play in 2023, and will become the third 18-hole championship track to bless the Sand Valley Golf Resort (alongside the Mammoth Dunes and Sand Valley courses).
And while we’re all stuck at home for the time being, I’d suggest you check out The Lido’s website and enjoy the Interactive Flyover of the course to provide you with the unique and beautiful views that a golf ball sees throughout a round.
