Adam Scott Reveals Issue PGA TOUR Players Will Have with LIV Golf Reunification
Adam Scott is well aware that some players on the PGA TOUR might hold some resentment toward LIV Golfers who return after the two sides agree to a deal to reunify golf.
The PGA TOUR has been in a lengthy negotiation process with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which will enable the TOUR to welcome players who defected to LIV Golf to return.
The process of the two sides coming to an agreement on terms has gone on for over a year and a half. Still, Scott, along with his other PGA TOUR Player Director Tiger Woods and Commissioner Jay Monahan, revealed recently that there has been significant progress in talks with the PIF.
Terms of the merger are not yet public knowledge, but rumblings have indicated the sides will agree to a deal later this quarter. This effectively means we could have details ahead of The Masters.

Regardless, Scott’s most recent comments indicate LIV Golfers seem to have a pathway back to the PGA TOUR — at least if they want it. LIV has made every indication that it will be sticking around for years to come. Their return to the TOUR after taking tens of millions, and in some cases, hundreds of millions of dollars to join LIV might not be welcome by everyone:
“I wouldn’t be surprised — or I wouldn’t judge anyone, the members — if reunification happened and they weren’t happy with how it happened. I hope they’re not spending as much time talking about it as I have. I wouldn’t hold it against anybody if there were negative emotions attached to it, the thought of players coming back.”
ESPN first reported on Scott’s comments.
Indeed, there are going to be emotions involved. Those who left the PGA TOUR for LIV Golf took massive checks and will be able to come back with really no true consequences, at least that we know of. Some have considered making LIV returnees play for no cheques, but good luck getting them to show up for that.
In reality, nobody at the top of the game should be truly disappointed. Despite some players receiving significant financial assistance from LIV, the PGA TOUR has already promised a type of loyalty bonus to be played out to players who stayed in the coming years. This should soften the blow, but truly, anyone complaining about money at the top level at either tour is out of touch with reality.
After so many players spoke out against LIV and its dealings with the PIF, the TOUR still went and drafted a preliminary agreement with the Saudis. The only person that players on the TOUR should be upset with is Monahan.
