Air France Lost Graeme McDowell’s Golf Clubs in Transit

When flying to a new location, it is everyone’s biggest fear that they will somehow lose their luggage. This fear has consumed Graeme McDowell this week and may have cost him a golden opportunity.

McDowell left his home in hopes of participating in a qualifier that could help solidify a spot for him in the Open Championship in a few weeks. But after landing at his destination, he realized that his clubs were not there. They were lost in transit only a few days before the qualifier.

Since landing, McDowell has become more and more pessimistic about his chances to play in the qualifier. Gramee has tweeted out his troubles and pleas for help from Air France, trying desperately to get his clubs to St. Annes before his scheduled tee time.

McDowell has learned the location of his clubs, the Charles de Gaulle Airport in France but isn’t expecting to get them back from what he calls a “black hole” anytime soon.

Graeme does have options here, as many people have pointed out, such as renting a set of clubs and seeing what happens. McDowell isn’t about to do that, however, as he is more focused on playing in the Irish Open and the Scottish Open over the next few weeks. Top Ten finishes in these events can also secure McDowell a spot in The Open.

It has been a long and hard fall for McDowell is recent years, as the former U.S. Open Champion has struggled mightily since winning the major 8 years ago. In 2011, Graeme was ranked as high as fourth in the world but that number has now plummeted to 175th. It’s not a David Duvall drop but it is a pretty sizeable difference.

Hopefully, Air France can get Graeme’s clubs back to him in time for the Irish Open next week. And while it is an unfortunate series of events for McDowell this week, we hope to see the former star Irishman back in The Open later this month.

No respect for a man who can’t golf without special clubs.
