It’s fair to say LIV Boston brought the noise. The individual winner of the 4th event in the series was Dustin Johnson as part of the 4 Aces, who bagged a third win as a team. Pat Perez must count his lucky stars every night that he is in the 4 Aces, snatching another $750,000 at this event despite a Sunday 70, and today’s T15 is his best finish so far.

DJ slammed in his 30-foot eagle putt on the first playoff hole in LIV history, with the ball bouncing up off the back of the cup and settling to secure him $4,000,000. He has come 8th, 4th, 3rd and now 1st in the 4 LIV events so far, easily the best individual playing record. Watching DJ locking horns with the new guys made for good viewing. On his day, DJ is still one of the world’s best, executing two perfect shots to hit the 560 par 5 18th in two before making eagle. (Driver, 7-iron, putt).

Newest signings Joaquin Niemann (Torque GC), Cam Smith (Punch GC), and Anirban Lahiri (Crushers GC) all hit the ground running, Niemann and Lahiri just coming up short while joining DJ in the first-ever LIV playoff.

Lahiri should have made eagle on his final hole, two incredible shots left him less than 8 feet. He lipped out and made birdie to post -15 and tie for the lead. Niemann almost holed a $4m eagle chip shot on his final hole, ultimately birdieing to secure his place in the playoff.

Some serious dollars were on the line at this point.

Lee Westwood of team Majesticks GC backed up his recent social media activity with some stellar golf; despite a niche look of long white socks and shorts. Birdieing the 18th on Sunday set him at -9 through 15 holes, before hitting his tee shot on the par 3 2nd hole to three feet for a kick-in birdie. Despite a bogey on his final hole to lose his T1 spot, Westwood rolled back the years, posting a Sunday 62 to come T4 overall.

With Dustin Johnson becoming the winner of LIV Boston, the financial breakdown from the 4th LIV event can be seen below:

11th place or better brings in a minimum of half a million, whilst 22nd place earns $172,000.  Provided there are no ties, 23rd place earns $170,000, 24th earns $168,000, and so on.

The $2,000 increments are easy to follow for the bottom half of the individual leader board, leaving the astronomically high figures to the top 10.

With $120,000 paid out for last place, everyone is a winner. Even Sihwan Kim, who carded the worst score ever in LIV history with a Friday 87, before rebounding with a Saturday 63 and a Sunday 76. Despite some serious consistency issues and coming last overall, he still had his moment in the sun.

The field for this event was the best by far. The commentary has improved, the crowds are growing, and as predicted, the team event is certainly gaining traction, mentioning more in the booth and offering the mid-table players something extra to play for. The first LIV playoff was witnessed here in Boston, and it was certainly one to remember.
