This was the news we didn’t want to hear…

According to the NY Post, the 2020 US Open has been postponed, but not cancelled. The good news is that it appears that the event will stay at Winged Foot and may be played some time around August or September of this year.

For those of you keeping score, that now makes three of the season’s four majors that have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

What’s shaping up to be a rough 2020 (and it’s only March) may end in a whirlwind of Major golf, with the possibility of at least three Majors being condensed into the months of September and October.

Personally this one hits me a little harder because the whole Golficity team had planned to be at Winged Foot this year to cover the event. And with the event originally scheduled for June, we had all been clinging to the hope that it just might dodge the COVID-19 bullet.

Although it was scheduled for June, the postponement does make sense however, given the fact that so many of the US Open’s qualifying events had to also be cancelled or postponed, so there’s more than just four days in June to consider here.

With every professional Tour currently postponed due to the pandemic, and events stacking up to be played, the odds of having anything resembling a full season in 2020 are dwindling away before our eyes.
