Ben Griffin Won the Zurich with an Affordable Golf Ball with a Great Reputation
Ben Griffin did not need to use the most premium golf balls on the market in an effort to win the Zurich this past weekend with playing partner Andrew Novak.
Instead, he won it with one that many of us would not even glance at in a Golf Galaxy. His playing partner even decided it was best to use the ball during the foursomes portion of the event.
Griffin and Novak held off a field of many big names to win the team event, and the Maxfli Tour X was a huge contributor to the victory:
Not only did Ben Griffin just win with a Maxfli golf ball, for the first time in ages, but word from Maxfli is that he and Andrew Novak decided to play Ben’s Maxfli Tour X completely in foursomes!

Maxfli is Dick’s Sporting Goods’ in-house ball, and it is usually labeled as an affordable, budget option for players who are short on cash or are just starting, as beginners typically lose many balls during their early rounds.
MyGolfSpy has spoken highly of the ball in its past years. It ranked just under the Titleist ProV1 Left Dash in its compression index, and the 2021 version was the fifth-best ball it ranked that year.
At just $39.99 a dozen, the Maxfli Tour X has the following features:
- Cast Urethane Cover – Soft Feel, Enhanced Greenside Spin, and lasting durability
- NEW! Polyhedron 336 Dimple Design – Advanced aerodynamic dimple pattern for penetrating ball flight and increased distance
- Dual Ionomer Mantle – High Flexural Modulus mantle with greater compression increases speed and distance
- High Energy Core – Produces consistently fast ball speeds on all clubs
- Center-Of-Gravity balanced – Patented balancing process provides unmatched precision during manufacturing, delivering superior consistency and accuracy
While many players will opt for a more premium offering from Titleist, TaylorMade, or Callaway, it is interesting to see a ball with a different reputation get a win on the PGA TOUR.
