As the years go by, Bernhard Langer just keeps breaking records.

Langer’s victory at the U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld in Wisconsin marked the 46th of his career on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. That broke a tie with Hale Irwin for the most in the history of the 50-and-over tour.

Langer said:

“Never thought it would happen at a U.S. Senior Open, but I’m very thrilled that the record of 46 wins happened this week. It’s certainly one of the greatest tournaments we ever compete in, and to beat this field, where everybody was here, especially Stricker and (Jerry) Kelly on their home grounds, is a very special feeling.”

The German star, who turns 66 in early September, led by seven strokes at one point on the back nine Sunday before closing with three straight bogeys. He ended up winning by two strokes over Steve Stricker at a 7-under 277 for the tournament. Stricker had won the first two senior majors of 2023.

Langer tied Irwin’s mark in February. The win on Sunday gave him several more records as well, including:

  • Oldest to win U.S. Senior Open (previous record was 57 years, 11 months)
  • Extended his senior major win record to 12
  • Broke his own record as the oldest winner on PGA Tour Champions (65 years, 10 months)

As for Langer, who is a two-time Masters winner and a seven-time season-long champ on the senior circuit, he says he has no plans on slowing down.

Langer said:

“I have my mother that’s going to be 100 on Aug. 4, so I think I have good genes. Hopefully, I’ll be around a few more years.”

Stricker had won the first two senior majors of 2023 but was bested by Langer in his home state of Wisconsin. Stricker also leads the season-long points standings for the Charles Schwab Cup.
