Brandel Chamblee is Returning to the Senior Open Championship
If there’s one golf analyst in the world that loves to call out players more than anyone else, it’s Brandel Chamblee. But now, those same players will be given another opportunity to criticize Chamblee’s own game.
Chamblee, an analyst for NBC and the Golf Channel, is well known on social media for his consistent tough grading of PGA TOUR players, which they don’t often take too kindly.

Chamblee himself, however, is currently only a part-time golfer who doesn’t hit the links very often. But he did so on Monday in an attempt to qualify for the Senior Open Championship for the second year in a row.
Chamblee got the job done again, shooting -1 to go T-8th and sneak into a qualifying spot in the Senior Open. It wasn’t as good as his performance in the qualifier last year, where he finished as a medalist, but the result is the same as we’ll be seeing him at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club.
But he’ll be hoping for a better performance there than at St. Andrews last year.
After he shot 77-75 in his only two rounds last year, a defeated Chamblee critiqued his own round, along with a bunch of other players he’s gone after over the years. “It was tougher than I thought it would be,” Chamblee said following the second round. “Yesterday I wasn’t sharp hitting the ball, and I putted atrociously. Today, I was pretty sharp hitting the ball, but I found my way into a couple of pot bunkers. And continued to putt like a buffoon.”

The goal for Chamblee this time around is to not be a “buffoon” like last time. There’s no denying that the 57-year-old has game, as he’s won on the PGA TOUR in the past, but going against some of the best on the Senior Tour may prove to be difficult again. And if he puts on a similar performance as last year, I’m sure there are several people that will be happy to give him very pointed critiques to improve.
The tee times and groups aren’t official yet so we don’t know when Chamblee will tee off but there will sure to be a lot of attention when he does take the tee box. And only time will tell if Chamblee can back up his talk and put up a strong performance this time around.
