BREAKING: 2020 U.S. OPEN Qualifying Events Cancelled
While the USGA seems committed to holding the 2020 U.S. Open on September 17th-20th at the Winged Foot Golf Club, it appears that this year’s U.S. Open will NOT have any qualifying events.

This is very unfortunate news (particularly for Phil Mickelson). One of the hallmark features of the U.S. Open is that any individual who qualifies has the chance to play with Top PGA pros like Brooks Koepka, Rory Mcilroy and Tiger Woods. Additionally, it appears this decision may cause problems for the 2020 tournament itself. Specifically, the expected field will be much smaller and will only consist of players from the exemption list (for example, major winners from the last 5 years).
It appears the USGA has already taken this into account and stated, “Additional Information regarding the expanded exemption categories for each championship will be made in the coming weeks.”

While this sucks for people who have been working hard and prepping for qualifying, at least we can still have a 2020 U.S. Open.
