So, Bryson on the Long Drive circuit now?

It appears Bryson DeChambeau may have had too much free time on Sunday while Tropical Storm Henri washed out the Sunday round of play for the The Northern Trust (Liberty National Golf Course).

Moments after the clouds finally passed over Manhattan, DeChambeau decided that it was time to break the news and announce that he will be competing in The Professional Long Driver’s Association (PLDA) World Championship in Mesquite Nevada, being held from September 27th to October 1st.

Bryson is currently holds the No. 1 spot on the PGA TOUR’s Club Head Speed (138.39) and Carry Distance (318 yards), along with top numbers for ball speed (199.55 MPH) and carry distance (387.2 yards).

The “Big” Bryson numbers really separate him from even the biggest hitters on the TOUR, but it’ll be very interesting to see how he’ll handle being among some of the other Bash Bros on the long drive circuit, like Kyle Berkshire, who’s been able to swing his driver around 145 MPH and produce ball speeds over 220 MPH.  All of that adds up to drives over 450 yards (with Berkshire even putting one out 474 yards).

The PLDA World Championship falls a few weeks after the Tour Championship (September 2nd to 5th) and the Ryder Cup (September 24th to 26th), so Bryson won’t have to skip any events.

But it will be interesting to see if DeChambeau finally adds the 48″ driver—the USGA legal maximum length—to his bag to help squeeze out some extra distance in his race for the FedEx Cup, to crush the European team, and maybe bring home a PLDA trophy to wrap up his 2020-21 golf season.
