We learned last week that CBS would be making some changes to their broadcast team for the 2020 season after the firing of Peter Kostis and Gary McCord, but only had some inklings of who would replace them. We now have one name confirmed by the network.

It was announced this week that Davis Love III will be joining the CBS team in 2020 in some capacity. Many of you will know Love III from the PGA TOUR as he is now a World Golf Hall of Famer and also a former U.S. Ryder Cup captain. He has a great resume and looks to provide some unique insight into the golf game for CBS.

“Davis is one of the most accomplished and respected players in the game of golf,” said Sean McManus, the President of CBS Sports. “With his playing experience, reputation and relationships across the golf community, he brings a unique perspective and insight that will enhance our broadcasts. Davis is the perfect fit for CBS, and we look forward to him making the best broadcast team in golf even better.”

Love is also extremely excited to take a step into broadcasting for the first time. “I have long considered CBS Sports the gold standard in golf coverage,” Love said in CBS’s release. “Whether playing or coaching, I have always loved the team aspect of golf, and I am thrilled to now be a member of the best team in television.”

While Davis went on to say how much he is excited to begin, he did not know whether he would end up being an analyst on the course or if he would end up in a tower. Love mentioned that this isn’t the end of his playing career, as the 55-year-old commented that he hopes to be a bit like Tony Romo, playing in events when his schedule permits it.

Love and CBS both confirmed that his first assignment will be in three months at the Farmers Insurance Open so that will be our first look at him in his new gig. Love will have the opportunity to show the fans that he isn’t as “stale” as McCord and Kostis.
