BREAKING: Ex-PGA Tour Pro Casey Martin has Right Leg Amputated
Casey Martin, the man who successfully sued the PGA Tour in 1997 to use a golf cart in competition, had his right leg amputated on October 15th due to complications from a broken leg after an awkward step off the curb in front of his home two years ago.

Martin was born with a rare vascular disorder called Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, leaving his right leg thin and fragile. He stirred up quite a bit of conversation (and became unintentionally famous) after arguing in PGA Tour, Inc. v. Martin that the Americans with Disabilities Act entitled him to use a golf cart during competition on tour. A federal court in Oregon, and later the Supreme Court, agreed.
Many in the golf world did NOT agree, however. Even Jack Nicklaus chimed in, lamenting during the court case, “I think we would lose the game of golf forever the way we know it,” if the court ruled in Martin’s favor.

Martin played eight years on the PGA Tour between 1998 and 2021, with his only full season on tour coming in 2000. He has spent the last 16 years acting as the head coach of the University of Oregon golf team.
Our thoughts go out to Casey and his family for a speedy recovery. Wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.
