Well, it’s official — Greg Norman’s run with LIV Golf has come to an end.

After four years at the helm of the controversial breakaway league, Norman confirmed this week that his contract has expired and he’s stepping away completely.

While Scott O’Neil took over as CEO earlier this year, Norman’s exit now closes the book on his role as LIV’s founding leader.

Norman made the announcement in a farewell message, reflecting on what he calls a “movement that changed the game globally.”

He credited his time at LIV with creating new opportunities for players, expanding the sport’s reach to fans around the world, and, of course, shaking up the traditional pro golf landscape in a way few thought possible.

Why This Matters

Norman was more than just a CEO — he was the face of LIV Golf from day one. His outspoken defense of the league, along with his relentless pursuit of top PGA Tour stars, put him in the headlines almost as much as the players themselves.

For LIV, this marks a symbolic turning point. Without Norman’s presence, the league may try to soften its image and position itself less as a disruptor and more as a permanent player in professional golf.

At the same time, his departure doesn’t really change much in the day-to-day. O’Neil has been steering the ship since January, and Norman’s contract expiration looks like more of a formality than a sudden shake-up.

Still, it’s hard to overstate what his leadership meant to LIV’s launch and survival through some very rocky early years.

Norman’s Goodbye

In his statement, Norman said:

“After four unforgettable years, I have officially closed out my time with LIV Golf, and reflecting with nothing but gratitude, pride and achievement. Together, we built a movement that changed the game globally. We created opportunities for both players and fans, and we truly globalized the game.”

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying the Shark left his mark. LIV wouldn’t exist in its current form without him constantly pushing boundaries, and his departure is the end of an era — short as it may have been.

What’s Next?

For LIV, stability will be the big question. Can the league keep growing without Norman’s larger-than-life personality attached to it?

For Norman himself, expect him to stay busy. Course design projects, business ventures, maybe even a new role somewhere in golf — it’s unlikely he’s fading quietly into retirement.

Either way, the golf world will be watching closely. LIV has changed the sport forever, and Norman was at the center of it all. His next move could be just as interesting as his last four years.
