When you’re on a golf course surrounded by trees and lightning is nearby, you run … you don’t walk.

An unidentified 70-year-old was found dead after being struck by lighting near the sixth or seventh hole of the Burlington Country Club in Westampton Township.

The man, who was seeking cover from the electrical storm, was standing near a tree that was ultimately struck by a bolt.

Until Tuesday, the U.S. hadn’t had anyone stuck and killed by lightning in 2021. This happened to be the longest into the year without the lightning-related death in reported history

For tips on how to remain safe during a storm in which lightning is present, please see the  CDC guide on Lightning Safety
