BREAKING: PGL Begins Courting Potential Players with Millions

In case you forgot, the Premier Golf League is the potential new league trying to court the world’s top players. And after going quiet for a while due to COVID, this week, the PGL burst back onto the scene.

For those who might not remember or aren’t familiar with the PGL, this is a potential rival golf league to the PGA TOUR and European Tour that is attempting to bring the world’s top 50 or so golfers into one league to compete in mega, big-money tournaments. The rumor has it that all players would also have a stake in controlling the PGL and making their own schedules.

Many might have thought the PGL was going to die out because many players have come out against the potential startup league but that doesn’t seem to have discouraged any of the PGL executives. According to a report out of The Guardian this week, the PGL officially started sending out some offer letters to players they have their eyes on. Those letters have a supposed valuation of millions of dollars.

According to the report, some of the players to receive the offer letters this week are Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson, Paul Casey, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, and Justin Rose. With an offer sheet like that, you can say the PGL is really going after the big fish. Of the players offered, the only one that seems to have expressed at least a passing interest is Phil Mickelson.

Interestingly enough, Brooks Koepka is on the list but is one of the players who has spoken out against joining the PGL. Koepka said weeks ago to the Associated Press that “I am out of the PGL. I’m going with the PGA TOUR.  I have a hard time believing golf should be about just 48 players.” Similar sentiments have been shared by other golfers like Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy.

It will certainly be interesting how this all shakes out, especially if any of these players declare that they will accept the offer and join the league. If that happens, who knows what could happen next in this saga.
