BREAKING: Rangefinders Will Be Allowed at the PGA Championship in Kiawah
The PGA of America has announced they will allow players to use “distance measuring devices” at all 3 of their major championships this year: The PGA Championship, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and the Kitchen Aid Senior PGA Championship.
“We’re always interested in methods that may help improve the flow of play during our championships. The use of distance-measuring devices is already common within the game is now part of the Rules of Golf. Players and caddies have long used them during practice rounds to gather relevant yardages.”
-Jim Richerson, president of the PGA of America.

This policy will start in May for the PGA at Kiawah Island (Ocean Course). Although, it does prohibit players from using slope calculation mode, which calculates distance based off elevation change.

I do have to admit – it’s going to be very strange to see Joe LaCava pull a rangefinder out of Tiger’s Monster bag and give him a number. But, we’ll see how many players take advantage of this change.
