As important as the 14 clubs in your bag are, the golf ball can still be the most important piece of equipment you play with.  Indeed, it is the ONLY piece of equipment that is used on each and every shot and, therefore, it’s imperative you find something that compliments and, ideally, enhances your game.

And Wilson Golf believes their new Triad is the ideal ball for the weekend warrior.

In a press release, Wilson Golf GM, Tim Clarke said:

“We are very excited to introduce this innovative golf ball for a growing community of competitive players who want to take their game to the next level. The competitive golfer striving to break 80 is who Wilson Labs had in mind while engineering the T3 Technology of Triad, allowing for pinpoint accuracy from anywhere on the course.”

Wilson’s new Triad golf ball is a three-piece, urethane-covered golf ball that is designed to be the perfect option slotted between their Staff Model ball (a four-piece, urethane ball) and the Duo Soft+ (a two-piece, ionomer ball.

But what makes the Triad more “perfect” than other 3-piece balls is that it’s been designed to provide a performance advantage tailored to average golfers?  Yes, you’ve heard of performance, often followed by how it spins less of the driver and more on wedges. But you’ve probably never heard of a tournament legal ball that is designed to be more forgiving and fly straighter off the driver (something all amateurs can benefit from).  Specifically, the Triad features a high-MOI design courtesy of the weight that’s been redistributed from the ball’s core to the mantle and cover.

Additionally, the ultra-thin cast urethane cover essentially helps the ball to stick on the clubface longer on mid- to low-irons, resulting in more controlled ball flight and more spin when you attack greens.

The Triad is the next development in the growing area of golf equipment designed to provide performance to golfers who want something that looks and feels Tour-spec, but could use some additional performance that previously required a more game-improvement appearance.

Case and point, the en masse growth of player distance irons, like the TaylorMade P790, Titleist T200, and Callaway ST Pro, which all offer supercharged ball speeds and forgiveness in a player-inspired design.

Wilson Golf is claiming that the Triad will help golfers sink 3 more putts, hit 5 more greens, and find 3 more fairways.  And for most of us, that actually can be the difference between a low-80 round and finally breaking into the 70s. In addition to the high MOI mantle and sticky cover, Wilson claims the Triad can provide this performance through a high density core.  By having uniform density between all layers, from core to cover, the Triad should roll more true by eliminating variance in the construction.

The Wilson Golf Triad goes on sale February 15th, and will retail at $40 per dozen.  And if you’re looking to final cross that barrier, it might be worth trying the Triad just to see if it’s that missing piece to your game.
