Breakthrough for Meronk at the Irish Open
Adrian Meronk has become the first Polish golfer to win on the DP World Tour.

Meronk joins Seamus Power in heralding from East Tennessee State University, and both have been in a fine run of form in 2022, with Power charging up the world rankings to #36 at time of writing, and Meronk now set to break into the top 100 in the world. It is no accident, Meronk is 5th in overall Strokes Gained this season, at +1.74 per round. He had secured a 6th place at the Soudal Open in May, followed by a 3rd place at the Dutch Open two weeks later, and now celebrates a win at the Horizon Irish Open.
Meronk had already bagged his place at the Open in two weeks, but teeing it up there will be another first for Meronk and his country. He had said being the first Polish golfer to make it onto the men’s professional Tour meant he had no template, no previous standards for which to aim, and set about carving his own path. The 6 foot 6 Meronk has a bright future and is the pinnacle of humility despite his giant frame.

Shooting four-under over his last four holes today was an incredible way to secure the victory, fending off New Zealander Ryan Fox with an eagle on the 17th hole that all but sealed his victory. Spare a thought for Fox, who has notched six top 10s in nine starts since February. Keep an eye on him, all that knocking on the door will eventually force it open.
I expect a strong performance from Meronk at St. Andrews, cementing his status back home as Poland’s poster boy. That’s how you grow the game!
