He’s done it. Bryson DeChambeau is your 2020 US Open Champion.

I didn’t think he had a shot at the beginning of the week. He wasn’t playing good golf, and combined with the conditions Winged Foot was going to bring, I just couldn’t see it coming for him. But he shut me up. He shut a lot of people up. He was always criticized over the years for his performances in majors, but that all has to stop now. Early this season, he played fantastic at TPC Harding Park, and finished 4th at the PGA Championship. Now, he gets his 1st major victory at Winged Foot.

Months ago, he told the world that the next time we saw him, we wouldn’t recognize him. And he was right. He locked himself into the gym, and came back HUGE. He now can hit driver to the moon, and that distance increase has changed everything in his game. When he has it going, he hits a lot of fairways. When he doesn’t, he’s far enough down there that he can just wedge it out of the rough. Bomb and gouge personified.

He put on a clinic at Winged Foot. Coming into the final round, I already chalked up the win for him. I knew Matty wouldn’t be able to close it. And the rest of the field was too far back. Bryson showed the world that he is here, and that’s a problem for the rest of the TOUR. If his distance is going to make that big of a difference for him, you’re going to see a lot of guys in the gym. On top of his current driving average, he plans on testing 48 inch driver shafts to see how far he can possibly hit it, (48 inch shaft is the legal limit).

So congratulations to Bryson. Next major stop… THE MASTERS.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
