Bubba Watson to Use New Pink Volvik Golf Ball in 2017
Bubba may already have two Green Jackets to his name, but even with his success, Watson still looks to improve his game every year. For the 2017 season part of that winning strategy will be making a big change to his equipment, with the introduction of a new golf ball.
In the past, the long-hitting lefty had been loyal to the uber-popular Titleist Pro V1x ball. Now, Watson has his eye on a new ball with a much less widely-heard name, the Volvik ball.
Volvik is a relatively unknown golf ball on the PGA TOUR but it does see it fair share of play on the LPGA Tour. The only notable player to use the Volvik ball on the men’s side of the Tour is another former Major winner, Craig Stadler, who uses Volvik on the Senior Tour.
So what exactly is a Volvik ball and what would it do for Watson’s game?
Volvik is a Korean golf ball company that has yet to gained a huge following in the United States. The Volvik’s most notable feature is that it is much more colorful than the typical golf ball—and we all know that being colorful has never scared Watson before.
Another perk that Volvik touts is their specific technology that maximizes a player’s hitting distance. Watson is already one of the longest hitters in the game, so adding a ball that is supposed to increase distance is a scary thought.

Jon Claffey, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik USA, talked about the company’s collaboration with Volvik saying:
“We had a special new shade of pink made up just for Bubba in our S4 golf ball”
Chaffey went on to say, ““If it makes it into play at the Tournament of Champions, it will be the first time a pink golf ball has ever been put into play in PGA TOUR history. It has been USGA approved and is currently in production to bring in to sell to the consumer. The green S4 he has requested should be ready by the Waste Management Phoenix Open. We are forming a pre-order list for anyone interested in playing the same exact ball that Bubba is playing.”
Adding an OWGR Top 10 golfer as a brand ambassador is huge for the Volvik company for many reasons. Mainly, they now have a big name player using their ball on the highest stage of the game which could attract more players to use the ball in the future. Additionally, bringing on a top tier American player will certainly help Volvik’s chances of breaking into the lucrative US amateur golf market.

It will be interesting to see if Watson continues using the Volvik ball through the entire PGA season but only time will tell if the switch will reap rewards for the major champion.
