2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson followed up an opening round 69 with a stellar second round 68 that included six straight birdies on the back nine. Watson was on fire today at Augusta national taking a 3 shot lead over Australian John Senden .
3-time Champion Phil Mickelson went in the other direction following his first round 78 with a 1-over 73 today. Mickelson will miss the cut this year that currently stands at 4-over. Conditions were hard and fast today and it took a toll on the field. Many notable Major champions won’t be playing the weekend this year in Augusta including Webb Simpson, Ernie Els, and Zach Johnson. 53 year old past Masters Champion Fred Couples carded his second consecutive 1-under 71 to finish at 2-under for the tournament .
The weather was perfect and the patrons were plentiful. Augusta in in full bloom and it has lived up to its billing as the premiere event in the world of golf. The gift shop was packed and Masters Memorabilia was flying off the shelves. Augusta National Golf Club doesn’t disclose the amount of money they makes of merchandise sales but I would venture to guess that it’s a very sizeable profit.
Saturday is shaping up to me a very exciting day at Augusta National. Despite the absence of world # 1 golfer Tiger Woods the Master sis living up to its reputation as a world class golf tournament featuring the best players in the world on a magnificent golf course.
